The pace just like the south end has slowed a bit, but the limits are still being brought in and many reports of good eater fish are still coming in.  Little Oak Island has been a hot spot lately 18-23' water with chartreuse, blue or black jigs. Night crawlers on a good ol' worm harness has also been the hot lure.

Muskie and northern fishing still remains hot! This week reports five 38"-42" northerns and eight  48"-54" muskies have been lured to the surface.  Don't delay book your trip now before the summer passes you by!

The Oak Island area has been quite productive and enjoying the positive weather that has settled over the Lake.  The Minnesota side of the border, the reefs near Little Oak and the Crow Duck reefs are all great spots at this time, and access from Oak Island is a breeze.  Deep Water Bay on the Canadian side, just minutes from the Lodge, is also producing some good action too.  Both jigs and spinners with chub minnows are working well, just tweak the presentation to the appetites of the walleyes on the day you choose to try your luck.  The muskie fishing is also starting to heat up more each day as the water temperature warms and they frequent the weed beds in search of small perch and walleyes.  The sightseeing and cruising in the Islands is also awesome this time of year – beautiful, serene  sights are calming to the soul, just what we need in times like these.  A tasty walleye fish fry prepared by your guide on an island just tops it off.

The islands have also bounced back after storm! Check out this picture of a new little fisherman! Her first fish was caught on Tuesday!  Not only her, age 4, but also her cousins age 3, 4 & 6 also each caught some fish on their 1/2 day excursion with dad and grandpas! What a memory!

Bright colored jigs, off the reefs have been the ticket.  The walleyes are still being found in shallow, but won't be long and the will be diving deeper.

A report of a 30" 10lb walleye was caught and released 7/15/08.

MUSKIES & NORTHERNS!! The hunt is in full swing and boy has it been good! 2-4 muskies per person have been caught per day.  A recent group reported catching and releasing a 47", 44", 51" & 48" the past few days.

Don't Miss out! Plan to get in on the action before summer passes you by!

The Oak Island area continues to have a good bite even though it has cooled off a bit. The are still good reports coming in.  The brighter color jigs of last week have changed to the darker colored blue or burgundy jigs with a minnow. Some guests are having good luck with some of the brighter colored artificial lures.  Most of the walleyes are in the 15-18 inch size range and each boat is catching and releasing about 3-5 fish in the 22-26 inch size.  The women  have mostly been outfishing the men in the boats  and all the groups are going home with limits of walleye.

Northern pike and muskies have been surprising the walleye fishermen too, by hooking into their jigs. In fact, while pulling in a small walleye, one fishermen ended up with one less walleye, but a muskie in the boat!  The muskie followed up the small walleye being reeled in and got hooked himself!  What a surprise!

The hard core muskie and bass fishermen have been getting lots of follows and the bass are ranging from 16-18 inches on the average!

The Northwest Angle and Oak Island area are having the season of a lifetime!  The fish have been unconditionally cooperative.  The guides are just hammering them and daily fish frys are mandatory!  The fishermen that are trailering their boats to this remote area are rewarded with the awesome scenery, relaxed atmosphere and some great opportunities to put their fishing skills to the test .  It takes a few days to find the secret spots, (simply because there are so many possibilities) but once found, the success is worth the effort!

Jigging with a minnow has been working well, but pulling a spinner with a night crawler and a bright colored blade is the best choice for right now.  The walleyes have been ranging in size from 18 -19 inches on the average, with lots of  24-26 inchers pulled in and released as well.  A guest from Texas, never fished the area before –reported pulling in a 20 pound northern – what a great fight!  Reports of hooking into a nice muskie, or a feisty small mouth bass are also coming in daily.  Call us up – some dates are still open – don't miss this limited fishing time!  We're just across the Lake – in a different world!  Check out our "Adventure Packages!"

The Oak Island area is producing an abundance of walleyes recently.  Bobbi's Bay on the east end of Oak has been harboring many recently spawned walleyes and they are hungry.  The evening bite off the end of the resort dock has been awesome!  Limits are being taken daily and lots of released fish to fill out the action of the day!  One group that has been fishing the area for the past 16 years told us this was the best trip ever!  They beat their old record of fish caught by over 100 bringing the total fish caught to 593!  The bottom bouncers tipped with a chub minnow or crawler has been the best presentation recently.  The quality of fish has also been good with most of them a nice eating size and a few 23, 25 and 27 inchers caught and released as well.  Many of the guides are reporting pulling in as many as 150 fish per day with 3-4 people on board!
